River Region Credit Union Earns National Award
Jefferson City, Mo – River Region Credit Union has topped the Credit Union National Association’s (CUNA) list for returning profits to their members. The CUNA Benefits of Membership Top Performance Award was presented to River Region at the 2021 CUNA Finance Council Virtual Conference.
Through a combination of low lending rates and fees, cash back accounts, and higher-than-average deposit rates, River Region saved members an average of $525 per household in 2020.
“This award is a true reflection of our core mission of putting people over profit,” said Galen Wilhoit, Chief Financial Officer. “Considering the trials of the past year, we’re pleased to have been able to offer this reprieve.”
Last year alone, credit unions nationwide saved their members $12.9 billion. River Region was selected for their performance therein in the $250 million to $1 billion in assets category.
CUNA bases this award on the direct financial benefits that accrue when the credit union’s rates and fees are compared to those offered at local banks. Using the credit union’s balance sheet, CUNA calculates total member savings per household from doing business with a credit union rather than a bank.
